Everyday as a Realtor, I get calls from people who are looking at downsizing or they have an aging inlaw who needs to join the family unit and they need a home to accommodate their ever changing family needs.
This week's call who said " Peggy, all we really want need is a home with a master bedroom on the main floor? Then she said, why are they so hard to find?"
The answer, is simple. Their wasn't the need years ago, like their is now. And secondly those that have homes with main floor master bedrooms are not likely to give them us since the need is so grand with the ever aging baby boomer population. I read somewhere that the oldest baby boomers are now in their 60's and the youngest are in their forties. So with that information, you can imagine over the next twenty years or so especially in our current economy, main floor master bedroom homes will be a sought after home in any area of the country.
I am so thankful my husband and I own the one photographed below. The one we own, was a well thought out Southern Living Magazine floor-plan that the Little Family had customizes to their needs at the time it was built. Our home is the perfect multi-generational home. Visitors are blown away thinking they are walking into a one level home only to wander and explore all three levels learning that their are bedrooms on every level. What appears to be a small home is a three level home with over 4800 square feet of living space. Get this, we have a total of six bedrooms and six baths! I'm not kidding." It's a treasure to own."

PS: I saw a home yesterday in my travels that had a den and full bath on the main level. Perfect for the someone who cannot do stairs and wants to be apart of the family. The house was under $500,000!
